Klaus Iohannis announced on Thursday evening, at the Cotroceni Palace, that he is nominating Ludovic Orban for the position of prime minister, but said that his first option remains triggering of early elections.
The head of state also communicated this to the parliamentary groups, who said they needed time to discuss and establish the way forward.
“I have finished the meetings with the parliamentary parties and I am able to tell you some conclusions. We have a liberal government that came with a reform agenda, wanted to reform many programs, to come up with improvements on electoral legislation, economic, social measures, all in the interest of Romania and Romanians. They wanted to fix the mistakes that were obviously made by the governments of the three years before”, said Iohannis.
261 votes were enough to dismiss Ludovic Orban’s cabinet into a no-confidence motion, the day before.
